Most locals don't even know about Fort Mose, but they should! This state park features three short trails, two leading to the intercoastal waterway. There's a small, but lovely museum that's kid- friendly for $2/each with clean bathrooms. I was told by the park ranger that they will be building a replica fort in 2024, so I'll definitely return to check it out.
This was very small and the boardwalk is not well maintained. The park feels like an afterthought which is unfortunate given its important place in history. I did not see any fees when I checked the state website, however, the indoor museum has a fee of $2 per person. There is a small boardwalk over a marsh area (lots of holes in the planks), a small walking trail in a wooded area, a small boat launch, a small picnic area, and the indoor museum/visitor center which did have clean bathrooms.
We attended the First Annual Harvest reenacted. What a wonderful show and very informative. My daughter is learning about the history of Ft Mose and the live experience helped her connect the classroom learning to real life. It is a beautiful place to visit and learn!
We loved our visit here and was pleasantly surprised by the story we found here. I teach history for a living and find it a shame that I was not familiar with the story of Fort Mose. Make sure you watch the video before you do anything else at the site. It will explain the story of the site. The museum is also very well done. I would recommend taking your time, reading the plaques, and listing to the testimonies. I can’t wait to revisit this park in the future as they continue to do more reconstruction to the park.
This is a little hidden gem just north of St Augustine. Everything is well done. The ranger and the volunteer were really helpful in answering questions. The ranger had a real passion for the history.
The setting is absolutely beautiful. Make sure you walk out to the dock and the boardwalk. Take your time and look all around. There are birds everywhere. I really enjoyed the wood storks. There are also crabs walking around.
We spent about 2 hours there. It is a grand place for history buffs and nature lovers.
Amazing historical site. Well worth the visit, definitely would go back again, especially when the fort re-creation is completed.
This is a nice place where you can learn more about Florida's history. There are two paths that lead to the water. There is a very informative 15 minute video to watch. Then a room with tons of information with pictures and facts. It cost $2 per person.
Great historical park right outside the Saint Augustine gates. My family had so much fun learning about the history and we are excited to see the additions that are being added to the Fort.
